There was an excellent turnout today with our NSW Biathletes enjoying Roller Skiing and Target Shooting in today's fine weather. Our coach, Jill Colebourn is back from the Competition Season in Europe and into the weekly coaching routine. It was pleasing to see two juniors for rollerskiing and two for the shooting session. The weather is Sydney was horrendous. Heavy rain meant roller skiing was called off. We were however still able to practise target shooting under cover at the Hornsby rifle range. A group of Masters followed their own programs with a mixture of prone and standing drills. Mark did a number of drills with a high heart rate, which did requiring running in the rain. Exciting news, members! Works on extending our range have started and this weekend a dozen hardy members toiled at Whiskey Flat Trees were removed to create three extra lanes The butt was extended The coaches mound was extended to match Cleared areas were re-vegetated Trails were mown ( mowing tussock is a massive job) Drainage works in three separate areas with underground pipes laid - that'll help keep the range operational in marginal conditions. There were a couple of members missing but there was still a combination of Junior and Masters athletes. Training consisted of roller skiing at the park followed by target shooting at the Hornsby range. One of the juniors has successfully progressed from shooting off the stand to shooting in prone with a cuff.
