Just for a change training was at the beautiful North Head, Manly. This spot overlooks Sydney Harbour and out to sea. It also has good roads with little traffic. If wasn't for the occasion speed bump it would be perfect. Today's session was focused on double-poling. Although double-poling isn't used in skate skiing as much as it is in classic, it is still used for starts, fast downhills and is also the base for all poling incorported with skating. We finished off the session
It was a great turnout for roller-ski training from the Juniors this morning. One of our athletes returned from a recent illness and another had tonsillitis and still came. What committment! Nour trained himself. It was also nice to see three other roller skiers out training on their own. Today the focus was on gliding on one ski. For this we threw away the poles and focused on alignment, coming up and balancing over one ski. I need this practise as much as anyone. I could se
Biathletes, you'll see the results of the efforts of our community of volunteers when you visit the range this winter. The range remains closed till works are finished. We got a huge amount done this Easter but there's finishing touches that'll soon be underway . This essential dra
Biathletes can look forward to more Biathlon facilities in the near future. At Hotham, works are already underway to have 4 extra lanes ready for this season. In Wodonga, there'll be an 8 lane range together with a 220 m hot sealed track for roller skiers and those on wheel chairs. Australian Bi
What a weekend! Biathlon coaches Paul and Tosh flew up from Melbourne to coach the Sydney (NSW Biathlon) contingent. It was a weekend of intensive training with roller ski sessions, shooting, competitions and delicious Italian food. I think I can speak for all of us to say we are exhausted but it was great fun. Saturday started early at 7:30am with a roller ski session at Lane Cove. We focused on technique with various roller ski drills and everyone got personalised advice on
Today is The International Day to celebrate Peace Through Sport. This is a day officially sanctioned by the United Nations and the IBU, Biathlon's international Federation. In Australia we're celebrating with our Intensive Camp and Come and Try events this weekend!
Today's Sunday training started at the earlier time of 7am, so that Jill could spend time with the Masters group before swapping over to the Juniors. As it turned out, the Juniors could not attend, so Mark and I had an extended 1.5 hour lesson! Jill told us both to focus on moving our hips forward as we rise to the downward pole with double time. We also tried a drill we can do to reinforce this at the start of a session When it works you can feel the extra glide. However, un
