Every year Finland hosts the world masters (over 35s) International Championship for Biathlon. A small group of Australians travel across the globe to the land of lakes and snow for the event. But what’s it like? I’m interviewing Robyn from Australia who travelled to Finland to compete. So, Robyn how did you first get into Biathlon? It was through a friend. I was in Albertville, France, site of the 1992 Winter Olympics with my friend Friedl competing in a world Loppet race.

The Sunday is when the Sprint event is held. Each competitor completes three laps of the course with two shoots in-between. Missing a target requires the athlete to ski a penalty loop of about 30 seconds. Highlights Jill Colebourn and Sabrina Howell completed a 1-2 in the Open Women’s event. Australian Biathlon is now able to conduct Laser Biathlon in NSW as we do in Victoria, in locations outside of licensed ranges and with no restrictions to ages! Our long standing relationship with the NSW firearms authority has resulted in the installation of exemption 116A to the NSW Firearms Regulations which permits lasers to be used in the sports of Biathlon and Penthalon.
