Our Australian Biathletes took the Famous Red Train across the Bernina Pass to St Moritz! The playground of the rich and famous (more so even than Verbier) is just across the next valley from our Aus base in Livigno. Hey Juel, where’s your aqua outfit from Pontresina!
Despite the snow storm, training continued for our teams at Livigno The new snow meant there was little free glide this afternoon. Our classic skis had a non-wax base which looks like Velcro - a modern version of the skins used years ago. This surface works ok in most conditions, but are obviously not great for new, cold snow 🙁. Martina said grip waxes would be better. Mark and I skied with Martina, and Juel with Consuela. We worked on our technique for about an hour. Afterw
Christmas Dinner up the mountain. Very good! We had to go by snowshoes. Pretty solid workout going up. Easier going down but a heavy snowstorm - see photo after we got back to the car park. Today we were shown the "stone grinder" machine used by the preferred ski shop, LaPollonia. Locals at the Sydney’s Lane Cove National Park were very excited reporting sightings of some of Santa’s helpers on what they called skis with wheels this morning. In a statement released this morning Santa’s HQ in the North Pole confirmed that this year they were trialing Rollerskis and Skikes for deliveries in hot parts of Australia as the rain deer 🦌 suffered a bit in the heat. However rest reassured this was only a trial at this stage and that deliveries are taking plac
In the morning we Trained at Livigno Range, with ski coaching by Martina and Consuela. It was Consuela's first day as an Instructor so she was very eager to help. My balance is v average, so we spent quite some time skootering on one ski, trying to maximise glide time. I found it really tiring.
In the afternoon we had a session for core exercises at the gym. ( Mark reports the gym is amazing!) No action photos today.... here is one from our walk around town tonight. Warmer t
