Day 2 of the Victorian Biathlon championship is the Sprint event. It was another good for NSW with Jill Colebourn, Isobel Patterson, John Joyce and Mark Elliott winning their respective classes. Results - Sprint event Kate Spencer is one of our newest biathletes. After a tough time at the range on Saturday she decided she no longer wanted to do penalty loops and improved on her shooting to only have 5 penalties. Mt Hotham delivered a serving of fresh snow with a side of scrumptious sunshine for day 1 of the Victorian Biathlon championship. Coach Luca set a technically challenging course for the Open competitors with fast downhills into tight turns and immediately up steep short climbs. These rewarded the skiers who could carry speed. What a week it has been at the annual Masters camp at Mt Hotham. The Masters enjoy a good sense of camaraderie. Our coaches always ensure there is a good mix of serious training, rest and recovery. Each day had consisted of time on the Biathlon range at Mt Hotham and some skiing in the afternoon. There have been a large number of races this year. Most of us will be competing in the Victorian Biathlon championship race this weekend. Wish us well.
Today was the official start of the Biathlon camp for over 35 year old competitors. Held at Mt Hotham every year, five biathletes from Sydney are attending the camp this year. For the morning we did target practise at the range with intervals of cross country skiing. We had a quick Biathlon relay. In the afternoon, we went for a ski from Dinner Plain to Paw Paw plain. The snow conditions and the grooming at Hotham is amazing at the moment. It's going to be a great week.
Today was the last day of the camp for our Biathlon stars of tomorrow. Approximately 35 juniors from NSW, Victoria and New Zealand trained at Mt Hotham for a week under our Italian coaches. The camp was ended with a Biathlon race with difference. Competitors had to negotiate an obstacle course using their agility skills before trying to hit five targets with up to eight rounds.
