Due to the COVID-19 virus access to Mt Hotham was closed for Biathletes from NSW and most of the camps were cancelled. Not to be deterred the NSW branch of the Australian Biathlon Association (ABA) organised a Nordic skiing trip to Perisher in the NSW Snowy Mountains, Australia.
Our coach was Alex Almoukov, dual Winter Olympian. There was no target shooting as Perisher doesn’t have a rifle range so the focus was on cross country skiing.
Coach Alex broke down our skiing technique and re-built it piece by piece. We did a combination of on-snow skiing and dry land technique training.
The conditions at Perisher were not ideal with some rain and wet snow falling from a grey sky. We were rewarded though on the last day with fast groomed tracks and even a bit of blue in the sky.
A big thanks to Alex our coach, the Australian Biathlon Association and K7 Adventures.
